White-Water Rafting – Kuala Kubu Bharu Selangor

Mr. Wong’s Whitewater Rafting Adventure: A Thrilling Experience for a 61-Year-Old

I still remember June 13, 2023. It was a regular weekday, but for our family, it was an unforgettable adventure! Yes, you read that right—61-year-old Mr. Wong, along with my ever-young wife Chen Choong Lun (58), my second son Wong Liang Jenq (31), my aunt, and nephew, all set off for a thrilling Whitewater Rafting experience in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, Malaysia.

Fueling Up Before the Journey

At around 7 a.m., we departed from our homestay in Kuala Lumpur. The morning air in Malaysia felt extra fresh. The traffic was smooth (thank goodness for weekdays!), and our first stop was a Hainanese coffee shop in Kuala Kubu Bharu. I have to say, Hainanese coffee with Hainanese fried noodles was the perfect match! Not to mention the buns and nasi lemak. The vintage buildings and village atmosphere added to the charm, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Pre-Adventure Nerves and Excitement

After filling our stomachs, we headed to the Whitewater Rafting meeting point. The drive up the winding mountain road, with sunlight filtering through the dense trees, was mesmerizing. Upon arrival, the staff were already busy inflating the rafts. We parked our car at the finish point and were driven back to the starting point. The leader gathered everyone for a short briefing, humorously reminding us to keep our phones safe—no hanging them around our necks or they might become “fish phones” at the bottom of the river! (A very useful reminder!)

Experiencing the True Thrill of Whitewater Rafting

With life jackets on and helmets secured, we followed the leader down the slope and boarded the inflatable raft, ready for our adventure. The scenery along the riverbanks was breathtaking—lush forests, clear rivers, it felt like a paradise. Our group of around ten people set off on this exciting journey together.

Honestly, I had second thoughts at the beginning. With each rapid, I kept asking the leader, “Are we at the finish yet?” And his answer was always, “Almost there, almost there.” But deep down, I knew it was just the start!

Midway, we stopped at a waterfall surrounded by beautiful butterflies. The cool mountain water was refreshing. We enjoyed some mineral water and snacks that had been prepared. And then, came the even more thrilling part—jumping into the water! Can you imagine? Even this 61-year-old “youngster” couldn’t resist jumping into the rapids and floating along the rushing water!

A Heartwarming End to an Exciting Adventure

After about three hours of rafting, the adventure finally came to an end. But the fun didn’t stop there! We were taken to a camp where we could shower and refresh ourselves. The staff had also prepared a simple lunch for us. As a final surprise, they gifted us with stunning photos and videos they had taken during our trip—completely free of charge! The experience was truly unforgettable!

Final Thoughts

Age is not a barrier, gender is not a problem! Whitewater rafting gave us a mixture of fear, excitement, joy, and laughter. It’s an experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime! For those still hesitating, let me tell you—you’ll regret it if you don’t try!

A little tip from Mr. Wong: If you’ve never tried Whitewater Rafting, don’t miss out! Whether with family, friends, or even solo, you’ll have an exhilarating time that will leave you wanting more!
