Tunamaya Beach & Spa Resort, Tioman Island

17/6/2025 – Journey to Paradise Begins

At 8:00 AM, I departed from Johor Bahru to begin an exciting trip to Tunamaya Beach & Spa Resort, Tioman Island, for a holiday experience and inspection tour. I had arranged to meet my teammate James Wong at the first Petronas petrol station after the Ayer Hitam toll (heading towards Kluang).

Around 9:30 AM, we continued our journey from Ayer Hitam, passed through Kluang town and the small township of Kahang. Following the GPS route, we drove through lush forests and endless oil palm plantations — the scenery was simply breathtaking.

By around 11:00 AM, we arrived at Mersing Jetty. Since our hotel had already helped us book the ferry tickets, we parked at a designated resort parking area (RM15 per day). We met the hotel coordinator, Sheila, and collected our boarding passes before waiting at the pier to board the boat.

For those travelling independently, tickets can be purchased online or at the Mersing Harbour Centre ticket counter. Don’t forget: all passengers are also required to purchase a Taman Laut Malaysia (Marine Park) conservation ticket at a separate counter — I’ve included a photo of this for your reference.

When boarding, pay attention to the announcements and match the colour on your boarding pass accordingly. Large luggage must be handed over at the boarding point to be stored by the ferry crew. The ferry ride took about 1.5 hours to reach Kg Genting Jetty, where we transferred to Tunamaya’s private speedboat for another 8-minute ride to the resort.
